    It's decent and does its job
    The one thing i hate about this, is the notches at the bottom where the gate connects, I use mine as a rectangle because that's what our house fits, and it leaves the notches exposed which is a good play for babies to hit their head. If you use its has a hexagon, I'm sure it's better. Other than that, it's cute and functional.

    Love this gate
    Love this gate. It has 2 sets of brackets ( we use it one for the top of the steps and one for the bottom).  It takes a few tries to figure out how to open this gate with one hand but it is possible. My 3 year old can not operate this gate. But my 7 year old can. Great gate

    It is very easy to take off
    We got this gate for our deck. We wanted something that didn't take up room to swing open and shut....this works perfectly! It is very easy to take off, so we plan on just bringing it in for the winter.

    Sturdy and Great Quality!
    Love this gate. We started out with a cheap plastic gate, that we really disliked and my son figured out how to climb it in about a week. Love that this one is mesh, so he can't climb it, and the panels lock together so it's harder for the little one to move it around. Also love that you can take panels out or add more in, is very modular!

    Works great so far
    Using this for a dog gate.  Works great so far.  Our dogs are large, but neither one really test this by pushing on it and such.

    Modern baby gate
    Very easy to use gate. Has a ton of screws to install so keep that in mind. Love that it takes up minimal space. Very sleek and modern. Price could be a little more affordable but worth it. Recommend

    Works great for our needs, but might be difficult in high traffic areas
    So I love the look of it compared to a big clunky wooden gate. It takes up only a small amount of space and is much more convenient to have around. It works well to keep our dogs and baby in certain areas. Yes, its true that if either REALLY wanted to get through they could probably get under it, but with our dogs that's a matter of training. Same goes for the baby. They know that when its up it means they are to stay put in that space and they shouldn't be pushing on it. The mechanism to open and close is where I see most peoples issue. There's a lever that has to pushed down and turned when you want to open it up or retract it closed. If you don't open the gate all the way in one motion to hook it on the opposite wall, it will lock up and you have to start over. Meaning you have to let it retract back in, push the lever again, and open it in one motion with no stopping (Hard to explain, but it's kind of like when your seatbelt locks up in a car...).  This is for safety and can prevent kids from pulling it open and closed constantly. We have a particularly large distance that we gate off so occasionally I have to do this process. Also, when it's time to retract the gate if the mesh doesn't go back in really straight it can get caught up at the bottom. Again you will have to push your lever in, pull it back out, and straighten it out. Again not a big deal if you are an adult. It will be a bit hard for kids to get a hang of. But we don't want our kids messing around with it so no problem for us. Some reviewers mentioned that you need two hands to make it work and I disagree. Once I got the hang of it I can do it with one hand. I would NOT recommend this for use in a heavily trafficked area where you would need to be constantly opening and closing. Then I could see the open and close mechanism getting annoying. We use it more sporadically for times when we are making dinner or having guests over and don't want the dogs running around under our feet. I would prefer to give it 3.5 stars but since that's not an option I think 4 is fine. It works well for what we need and I think it's better looking and priced well compared to some of the other retractable's out there.

    Comparable Gate Substitute
    I prefer the appearance verses a gated stairwell. I mounted it on the outside of the staircase so I doubt I ever remove it since it doesn't get in the way, not so noticeable, and hardly takes up space. I do think it is more of a hassle to open and close as opposed to a gate. Requires two hands to open and close. Easy installation. Does not come with the adapters to mount to base boards so it leaves a 2-3 inch gap at the bottom. This isn't a problem at the bottom of the stairwell but at the top it is visibly tempting to crawl underneath for my child.

    Safe and Durable
    My son is way to active at this point and it’s impossible to leave him on a mat and expect him to stay in one spot or not get into something. He is at the age of waddling and trying to open every draw and door (12 months). I got this gate to give me piece of mind and have my little one have an open safe play space. It took me a little bit to set up I wasn’t sure how to snap it together entirely but once you get it, it’s super easy to take down and set back up. You can tear it down and store it away if you have a small space. The mesh is see through and easy to clean. My son got to his lotion and smeared it all over the mesh and it wasn’t a hassle to clean up. If you have a decent size play room you can always mount it to the wall to great more space or maybe get an extender. It’s really worth the buy. I will be keeping this for baby number 3.

    Unintended Purposes
    I have a 12 month old who gets crazy anxiety when i put him in anything; he will literally scratch his cheek until it bleeds. I am therefore, unable to use this for it’s intended purpose but i have been able to use it to block off some high germ areas from my shoe licking, trash picking, toilet touching explorer. The gates are super wide and are a little cumbersome to manage but over all it is pretty easy to shape this. Maybe someday i will be able to use this beautiful playpen for what it was made for.

    very safe, very convenient
    As another reviewer explains: be sure to install the gate correctly and it will work beautifully. We have it at the top of the stairs with no concerns about safety. This gate can be used one-handed. Just figure out how to use the release button so you can operate the gate without holding the button down.

    Awesome!
    I dont ever leave reviews but this is the best baby play gate ever. 090% worth every penny. Very sturdy, easy to take apart & put back together, and very nice to look at.

    Durable but difficult to open and close
    We bought this gate to keep our ‘baby hulk’ out of the kitchen; he had already broken 2 traditional baby gates and we wanted something that was always there but could be out of the way (retractable). This gate has withstood baby hulk for several months now and continues to function for what we need it for. The biggest downfall of this product is that not only is it not ‘one handed’ capable for opening and closing, but it takes two hands and a foot for me. The knob you have to turn and hold while pulling is very touchy and hard to find the ‘sweet spot’ for it to release. I can never get it on the first try.

    Worth the money
    We really love this play pen! It’s easy to set up and easy to move around to make a big or small play area. One panel has a gate type latch which makes it easier for us to go in and out of the play pen. Also, added bonus: the color is subtle so it matches well with everything!
